Please bring your old markers from work, home, daycare, etc., and add them to one of our collection bins.
Our school takes part in a program to recycle used markers (any brand of felt-tip markers — permanent markers, colouring markers, white board markers, highlighters, etc.). These are collected and then sent to a facility that will turn them into alternative clean fuel. Most teachers should have collection bins in their classrooms that get emptied into a bin in the hallway. There is one bin by the front desk, and another downstairs in the hallway outside the gym. Over the last 2 years, we have recycled 920 markers! To find out more about the program, which is run by Crayola, visit ColorCycle.

Would you like advanced notice of PAC events where food will be served?
Does your child follow a special diet due to allergies, intolerances, a medical condition, or for religious, cultural, or philosophical reasons? As the parent of two children with severe allergies, I like to know ahead of time about PAC events that will have food. That way, I can either work with the organizers to find a safe choice for my kids, or I can have time to prepare a nice alternative that they can bring from home. I know there are other kids at the school who, for one reason or another, can't always have the food that is being served at events. I would like to start sending out notifications to those who want them, so people can find out the details of what is coming up. Please sign up to our special eblast below or, drop a note in the PAC box at the front desk of the school, if you would like to get advance notice of any food-related PAC events or if you have any questions about this. (Please note that this only covers PAC-organized events. Food in classrooms is something you would need to discuss with your classroom teacher.) Thanks, Sarah MacKinnon Member-at-large Last year, at the Year End Celebration, one of our teachers, Mrs. Burke won the grand prize of a trip for 2 to anywhere that WestJet flies. In August she and her husband went on a trip to London, England and then went to Eastern Europe. They had a wonderful time, saw lots of amazing places and did many exciting activities. They went to see the Crown Jewels in London and went on the London Eye (a big ferris wheel). They went on a paddle boat in Prague and saw the famous "dancing house" building designed by Frank Gehry. They saw many beautiful castles, churches and buildings. They even went to see a Shakespeare play in a round theatre. Here are a few pictures of their adventures. Mr. and Mrs. Burke would like to thank WestJet and the McGarry family for donating this amazing prize to our school as a fundraiser. To allow all parents to participate we have monthly Parent Advisory Council Meetings. All meetings are held in the Dr. AR Lord Elementary Library. Free child minding is provided. Please plan to attend these meetings.
Good morning everyone; to all the amazing teachers and supporting staff and to our wonderful principal Ms Susie Car; to all our AR Lord Elementary students, and to our special guests, their families and friends. A very special good morning wish to our incredible group of Grade Seven students as you are moving on towards the next step in your exciting journey of life!
This week, we wish a fond farewell to Utkarsh, Logan, Wyatt, Max, Caleb, Daisy, Megan, Christian, Juddy, Billy and Wilson. We know you will indeed, FARE WELL. Each one of you is growing as an amazing person with full potential to achieve your dreams, to contribute to this incredible world, to be everything you want to be. We have delighted in watching you grow during your time here. Some of you have known each other since before preschool, others have joined the journey here at varying points between kindergarten through grade seven. No matter how long you have been together, you have been a wonderful and strong team. Each one of you is a delightful, unique and interesting individual. Together, you are an amazing group of kids. You have grown together through all sorts of situations. Some may have seemed difficult, but you figured out how to make things better. Others were filled with great discussions, sharing thoughts, lots and lots of learning, and plenty of fun too! All under the guidance of your wonderful teachers through the years, Ms Young, Ms Bains, Ms Watson, Ms Phongmany, Ms Wise, Ms Skucas, Ms Young-Eng, Ms McCandless, Ms Burke, and of course, the incomparable Ms O’Neill! Our school community is strong and caring, in large part, because of all of you and your families. You are wonderful kids, together as your group, and with all the other students here. Great role models and fun big buddies. You epitomize our school values: Create Peace | Be Kind | Be Safe | Be Respectful. Our wishes for you as you continue your journey and move on to high school: Continue your strong friendships and embrace new ones. Don’t be afraid to fail, because, as I quote: ”Without failure, we’d be less capable of compassion, empathy, kindness, and great achievement; we would be less likely to reach for the moon and the stars.” Don’t be afraid to ask questions, or to learn and explore new things. Expand your horizons with positive influences through knowledge and activities. And keep in your hearts our school values, they will fare you and your peers well, forever. Remember, you have those who love and care for you, your family and friends. Be strong and adventurous as you continue your journey in life, but know they will always there, for you to confide in, to share with, to comfort you and encourage you. As you move forward in your exciting adventure of life, please know, you are the future, and because of you, the future looks good. Please join us in congratulating our Grade 7 graduating class! When:

A.R. Lord's volunteer community was invited to attend the annual Volunteer Morning Tea in June. Teachers and staff gave their thanks and showed their appreciation to parent, caregiver and local volunteers.
Delicious traditional Italian treats and baked goods were prepared by Principal Ms. Car's mother and were served with coffee, tea and fruit. The event also included a special guest - our new incoming School Principal for next year: Ms. Margie Pimentel Trovao. Special thanks were also given to this year's Parent Advisory Council Executive and a beautiful gift of potted flowers were given to all guest attendees. The collaboration of parents/caregivers, staff, teachers, students and community members make A.R. Lord Elementary a special place for all and enrich the educational experience for our children. A year has passed, and the summer is here.
As a celebration of a great year at Dr. AR Lord, kids, families and neighbours got together to enjoy each others company and revel in the spirit of community. Great food, including potato dishes made by AR Lord students, and fresh fruit donated by a local farm made the night memorable. Children were able to participate in crafts, games and activities and parents and families were able to listen to local first nations music and a jazz pianist play piano. We thank everyone who came to be part of something special, and also to all the volunteers who worked together long before the night to make it all come together without a hitch. Also congratulations to the winner of our annual WestJet Raffle fundraiser. We all wish Ms. Burke luck and fun on her adventure somewhere that WestJet flies.
